We pride ourselves on the outstanding academic outcomes of our students and the excellent progress they make. Consistently high A Level results make us one of the leading state schools in the United Kingdom.

Saffron Walden County High consistently achieves outstanding A Level results. In 2019, 53 students gained A* or A grades in all of their subjects, with 97 A* grades being awarded in total. These results are even better than the high performance in 2018, which placed our Sixth Form in the top 2% of Sixth Forms nationally.

August 2019

Saffron Walden County High has yet again achieved outstanding ‘A’ Level results with 53 students gaining A* or A grades in every one of their subjects. These results are even better than the high performance in 2018 which marked the school as having one of the best Sixth Forms in the country. This stellar performance is particularly impressive since the Class of 2019 is the largest and most inclusive one in memory with 316 students in it. So many students have made excellent progress during their time with us. 

The most important part of these results are the choices and progression route it provides our students. The vast majority of students will accept first choice university courses and apprenticeships. Many will attend very competitive courses including Economics at Cambridge, Veterinary Medicine at Edinburgh, English Literature at Oxford University and Dentistry at King’s College, London. Some notable results include Lauren McAuley and Poppy Gibbs both achieving 4A*grades alongside 29 students achieving two or more A*s.

Executive Headteacher, Caroline Derbyshire, commented that “the results exceeded predictions and were thoroughly deserved by the hardworking students. The County High’s teachers, who prepared them for these examinations, did a tremendous job.”
