Duke of Edinburgh
By doing your DofE, you're in for an amazing adventure and masses of fun as you take part in a range of activities, all leading to the achievement of an Award that's recognised by universities and employers alike.
At SWCHS we are proud to offer the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) scheme at all three levels.
Bronze level will be available to Year 9 students, Silver level to Year 10 students and Gold to Year 12.
We have a number of staff who run training sessions in our after-school meetings for the expedition section of the award and expect students to show dedication to the scheme by attending these meetings. In these meetings students will develop their map reading and route planning skills. We also train them to use the Trangia stoves and how to choose the correct equipment for their needs.
There are three other sections of the award which students need to complete by themselves: Physical, Volunteering and Skill. This is a great opportunity for students to try out a new hobby or for them to improve on a hobby they already do. More information can be found at Doing your DofE. The Gold award has one additional section, which is a five-day residential.
