Admissions

Saffron Walden County High School is a popular and heavily oversubscribed secondary school. On National Offer Day in March, we receive approximately 600 applications for our Year 7 and offer 300 school places for our Year 7 cohort each September.

  • The Saffron Academy Trust (SAT) is the school’s admissions’ authority.

  • SWCHS admits students at the age of 11+ without reference to ability or aptitude and provides for the needs of students within the 11-18 range.

  • Students with a Statement of Special Educational Needs or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), where SWCHS is named in the Statement or Plan, will be admitted to the school.

  • Applications for Year 7 will be ranked using the 8 stages of criteria in the order given on our admissions policy.

Our top priority is to ensure that every single student makes the greatest possible progress in their learning and fulfils their academic potential.

A large majority of our students stay on for post-16 education and are joined by students from other local schools. The Sixth Form at County High offers an exciting and varied curriculum as well as stimulating activities outside the classroom. We firmly believe that the Sixth Form is a stepping stone to higher education or employment and, as such, we encourage students to develop the skills needed to be successful in a more independent environment.
